Drywall, also called gypsum board, is a construction material that is durable, fast and easy to install and repair. This wallboard paneling is mainly made of gypsum, which is a mineral that contains crystalline water molecules.
The water molecules give finished drywall more fire-resistance than other materials. Gypsum is mixed with additives to thicken it into a paste that is thickly sandwiched between two large sheets of Manila paper, usually 4x8, 4x10 or 4x12-foot sheets.
Use drywall to create walls, ceilings, arches, frames and other building features. Drywall is present in houses, apartments, hotels, office buildings, hospitals, stores, malls, government facilities and most other buildings built since the 1950s. Drywall panels are thin and provide several insulation options, which makes them energy efficient. The gypsum also helps resist mold, moisture and mildew.
Is drywall the same thing as sheetrock?
No, sheetrock is a drywall brand. The terms "sheetrock" and "drywall" are often used interchangeably because, with the exception of certain chemicals, they are the same thing. It's like having tissue paper or Kleenex at your desk. Both are thin sheets of paper designed to do the same thing, but one is a name brand.
How long does it take to complete a drywall project?
The simplest answer is it depends. How large is the room? What does the project entail? Are we installing new walls or are we just matching finishing textures? Is the project for one room or multiple? The best way to determine how long a project will take to be completed is to contact Edberg's Elite Drywall & Finish.
Once you give us an idea of what kind of drywall and finish services we will provide, we can more accurately estimate how long it will take to complete your residential or commercial project.
My walls and ceilings are stained from smoking. Do they need to be completely replaced?
No, though nicotine stains can be difficult to remove, it is not usually necessary for a full wall or ceiling replacement. Instead, call Edberg's Elite Drywall & Finish to schedule an inspection of your commercial or residential property. Our drywall professionals will let you know whether we can simply layer a new finish or if the stains are so bad that they need to be scrubbed out and refinished.
Can a water damaged ceiling be repaired or does it need to be replaced?
It depends on the size and location of the water damage.
Small area water damage to your ceiling can often be repaired. But a replacement is necessary when water damage impairs the integrity of your drywall or creates a mold situation that can then spread throughout the rest of your home or office. If the damage is close to a joint, it might result in a split that will only get worse over time.
To determine whether your ceiling will require a drywall repair or replacement, call Edberg's Elite Drywall & Finish. One of our drywall professionals will inspect the damage, let you know whether it requires a repair or replacement, and will even give you a free estimate.
